DateNight (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is an app for couples to decide what to cook or where to go out. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. We built DateNight to help you make a decision together — not to profile you. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Information we handle

Meals, venues, and swipes

When you swipe on meals or restaurants, add your own dishes, or match with your partner, that activity is stored so the app can remember your library and show your matches. Meals you add may include a name, an optional photo, and a recipe link you provide.

Location (for Going Out)

If you use the Going Out feature, DateNight asks for your location so it can find real restaurants and venues near you. Your location is used to look up nearby places and is not used for advertising or tracking. You can decline this permission — the rest of the app still works — and you can change it anytime in your device’s Settings.

Pairing & sync

To sync swiping between two devices, DateNight uses a pairing code that links your device with your partner’s. Meal, venue, and match data associated with your pairing is stored on our backend (Amazon Web Services / AWS Amplify) so both devices stay in sync. We do not require your name, email, or phone number to use the app.

Purchases

DateNight offers an optional Premium subscription handled entirely by Apple’s App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. We do record whether a pairing has an active subscription so Premium features can be unlocked for both partners.

Device & diagnostic data

Like most apps, we may process basic technical information (such as app version, a device identifier used to keep your pairing stable, and crash diagnostics) to keep the app working and fix bugs. If you enable notifications, we store a push token so we can alert you when your partner starts a round or you get a match.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your personal information.
• We do not show third-party ads or use advertising trackers.
• We do not require an account with your real name or email.

Third-party services

DateNight relies on a few service providers to function:

• Amazon Web Services (AWS Amplify) — hosts the backend that syncs pairing, meals, venues, and matches between devices, and sends push notifications.
• Recipe & meal content providers — the curated meal deck is populated using third-party recipe data. Browsing the deck may involve requests to these providers to fetch dish details and images.
• Venue & map data providers — Going Out uses third-party place data (such as OpenStreetMap and venue-listing services) to show real restaurants near your location, including photos, ratings, and price.
• Apple — handles subscription purchases and delivers push notifications via the Apple Push Notification service.

These providers process data on our behalf and under their own privacy terms.

Data retention

Meal and match data tied to your pairing is kept while you use the app. You can remove meals you’ve added at any time within the app. To request deletion of data associated with your pairing, contact us using the details below.

Children’s privacy

DateNight is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices

You can stop all data collection by deleting the app. To request deletion of pairing data from our backend, email us at the address below and we’ll take care of it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above.
